New Media Artist Blog

What is the topic (what artist) of your presentation and why did you select that artist?
The artist I chose was Danny Rozin. I selected this artist because I was scrolling through different images of new media artist and his art drew me in unlike the others. I did some research into it and his work was much more than I thought it was and thought it would be a good one to share.

Did you encounter any challenges when creating this presentation? Please describe them and how you overcame them.
I found the problem of getting images in at first but saved that step to do on my laptop and that worked fine. I had known how to use Prezi before so there were few road bumps. If any finding information was difficult  there was only so much and it was very repetitive.

What did you enjoy the most about this project and why? The least? and why?
I enjoyed listening to class mates and being introduced to so many new artist. It's hard to get yourself to find new artist after to you getting the same artist day by day on social medias. I don't think I really had anything I disliked about the project. If anything the timing, I would have rather done it closer to the middle or beginning of the semester.

Do you think you will use presentation tools (PowerPoint, Google Slides or Prezi) in your art classroom? Why or why not?

I enjoy using prezi and believe it is a more interactive and easy way to show a classroom of students and for them to use as well. It is well verse for all ages and I do believe I would use/ teach my students to use this.

visiting artist

1. Of Robert's work, which makes an impact on you and why?  (Home Page)

His work, Mirrored made the biggest impact on me. I myself don't love computers and technology the way some do so his work at first was harder for me to grasp but then seeing in the the woods setting glowing both at night and during the day was a beautiful piece.

2. How does Robert's work relate to the themes/topics that we have been learning about in this course?
We discussed visual culture during class and Robert's work is full of it. He uses gifs as a texture in his work which is something I don't think any artist has thought of yet.

3. After reviewing his website/Blog, what questions do you have for the artist? What would you like to know more about ? (These question may be able to be answered during this visit on Nov.12)

How do you visualize your disired  outcome in a piece? Do you have a set way you'd ;like the piece to look from he begining or do you let the piece come together as you go?

Have you always had a love for technology or was this a newer medium you started to explore?

1. What site did you select to create your Infographic? Why did you select this site? What are the pros/cons of the site?
I used Pictochart because I remember really enjoying it during high school. It is a very user friendly site with many templates to help you get started. A con would be that not all aspects are unlocked for free.

2. What is the topic of your infographic and why did you select it? Which L.A.T.C.H. method did you use and why?
My topic is awareness on the water crisis and I selected it because I feel as though an art classroom may be  the classroom that could conserve on water and be a good environment for kids to learn

3. Compare the infographic you created for this project to the poster you created using InDesign. Which tool do you prefer using, the Adobe tools or the online tools and why?

4. On you Blog post, be sure to include the infographic and a jpg of your InDesign poster.

5. From the video " The Beauty of Data Visualization", answer the following:
  • What do you think of the quote from Hans Rosling "Let the dataset change your mindset."?( 12:18) Do you think data is powerful enough to change ones behavior?
  • "Design is about solving visual problems with elegant solutions and information design is about solving information problems" What are your thoughts about how this can help communication with issue with trust and reliabilty?(16:43)
  • How does this "data visualization" talk tie into what we have been learning about visual culture and media?
  • Of all the dataset examples in the video, which one do you feel had the most visual impact and why?

Observation Discussion Questions

  • What types of observations did my peers make that were similar to mine? How and why are they similar?
Most students observed that students now have Chromebooks in the classroom to use when needed as a tool. Students in rural schools as well as city schools had accessibility to these laptops and had expected responsibilities.

  • What types of observations did my peers make that were different to mine?  How and why are they different?
Other peers noticed a difference in the way other teachers respects the art teachers. In some instances the art teachers they were observing said one way to get around is is to just avoid the teachers lounge. I know this is something that happens in some school districts but the one I attend for high school and have been observing at is the exact opposite. The art teachers are responsible for bringing the community and school district

  • Did you find the discussion with your peers of your observation experience helpful to you as a future art educator?
The discusion brought to light different teaching problems from school to school that I wasn't aware of

  • In your next observation hours to complete (for this class or others), will you view things differently? If no, why? If yes, why?
I think I will observe the same in the future but I will be more prepared for different scenarios.
